Dr Max Wong graduated from the University of Sydney with Honours in 1985. He worked overseas in Malaysia for 3 years before turning to Australia to work in rural South Australia. He was a Senior Medical Officer at Mareeba Hospital in Far North Queensland from 1994-1998, and then Medical Superintendent of Dalby Hospital in Western Queensland from 1998-2000.
Dr Max obtained some post-graduate qualifications during that time:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP)
- Diploma of Tropical Health and Hygiene (DTMH)
- Masters of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPHTM)
- Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM)
